The Great Experiment

Day 12, part 3

At 5:30, I met Scott Gosik ("Mirage") in front of the Dolphin Hotel, where he had just finished a conference on Cisco networking, and we went to Downtown Disney. We had dinner at the Portobello Yacht Club, a fairly fancy Italian affair where we were given free samples of wine with our meal. It began raining just as we entered the restaurant, and it finished raining just before we left.

Before and after dinner, we wandered around Downtown Disney a little.

Not long for this world?

At least it's still got a big fan

Do people turn into donkeys if they come here?

Wild horses couldn't keep people away from this place

This place is neat to see, but I don't recommend eating here

And neither does he

To satisfy all the Lego fans out there, I dropped by the Lego Imagination Center and photographed a pair of the new Star Wars Lego buckets to prove that they actually do exist. (These are identical buckets; I just turned one of them around.)

Once again, ducks followed me around:

But this time, I also found a rather confused bird who kept diving deep underwater... and coming back to the surface with small fish in its bill!

I think its tail rudder is very cool!

Mirage and I decided to then catch an opening-night showing of 'X-Men' at the AMC cineplex right there in Downtown Disney. There were two theaters in the cineplex showing 'X-Men' at 9:30; one of them had a line waiting to be let into the theater, but the other was mistakenly labelled 'Scary Movie' and so therefore no one was hanging around it. We went into that theater to find only one other person inside, and we got the best seats in the house even though it was packed to capacity by the time the movie started!

The movie was much better than I had expected. There's very little exposition, leaving it up to the audience to get to know the characters by seeing how they act, and I think that was handled really well. I was very worried that this movie would be extremely watered-down, but it wasn't. I'll give it thumbs-up. Go see it. :-)

After this, we called it an evening... as I believe I'll do now as well, since I'm making too many typos and I can't think of any more good captions tonight for my photos.
