The Great Experiment |
Day 13, part 1 |
Saturday, July 15, 2000: Tonight I'm going to go see the 'Mascot Olympics' with Gen and a group of local people.
Evening update
The Mascot Olympics were great! And it was wonderful to meet the local crowd.
I met up with them in front of the ticket window of the Orlando Arena. The Orlando Arena is a small indoor sports stadium, with a small (fifty-yard) football field inside. The Mascot Olympics is a fun event for charity: thirty costumed mascots from baseball, basketball, hockey, and football teams come out to participate in a few 'sports' (and generally produce mayhem on the field), and the five-dollar entrance fee is donated to the National Make-A-Wish Foundation.
On our way inside, we encountered several of the mascots. I don't know these guys, and I don't follow sports enough to know what teams they're from, but fortunately there was a handy guide with pictures given out to identify them.

Thrash (Atlanta Thrashers, NHL)

Stanley C. Panther (Florida Panthers, NHL)

Mariner Moose (Seattle Mariners, MLB)

T. D. (Miami Dolphins, NFL)

The Moose (Rochester Americans)

Bernie (Miami Heat, NBA) - this guy was one of my favorites because he looks like Beaker

Poe (Baltimore Ravens, NFL) - their other mascots are 'Edgar' and 'Allan', get it?

Klaw (Orlando Predators)

Star (Orlando Miracle), the only 'female' mascot there (note the little pegasus wings)

Who Dey (Cincinnatti Bengals, NFL)

Youppi (Montreal Expos, MLB)
