Day 13, part 2

The show began with an unexpected but rousing chorus of 'O Canada,' followed by a young woman who played the first few notes of the Star-Spangled Banner on a violin and then sang it out loud... and her voice was beautiful, crisp, and loud, until any time she had to sing a note below a high A or so, at which time her voice fell to a whisper. She sang the high notes perfectly, but I've never heard a singer with that particular low-note problem before.

Then the Mascot Olympics began. There were six events, with a brief cheerleader dance number between the two sets of three:

Wheelbarrow race
Passing large beach balls over heads and between legs
Bicycle race (modified to replace the rear wheel with a small platform)
Hurdle race
Giant basketball
Tricycle race

The audience was divided into Red, Green, Yellow, and Blue sections, and each mascot wore a colored ribbon to show which 'team' he belonged to. After each event, one team was declared the 'winner'... but each event usually devolved into wackiness by the end, so I think the scoring was mostly arbitrary. I was in the Yellow team section. Unfortunately, most of the action happened on the far end of the field.
