Satisfying

I found a blog post that I wrote on October 26, 2021, and never posted.

Better late than never? Posting it now. It’s a snapshot, of sorts, of me from four years ago.

This weekend I attended a virtual seminar of eight one-hour-long sessions on writing (of which one was given by Alli Martin). I learned a heck of a lot, including specific answers to some questions I’ve had out for a long time. My paradigms have been shifted. Lots to think about.

Last weekend I got to see Daniel and Shelly and Mark and Tina and Stan, which is like a hundred times more people than I’ve seen all year leading up to it. I am woefully out of practice about interacting with other people, and tremendously grateful they didn’t seem to mind.

The cybersecurity competition at work is finished. Later this week I’ll find out how my team did. I have managed to avoid being down on myself for not having figured out more of the puzzles; I did as well as I could, and I learned from it. Some of the ones I didn’t get were ‘guess what the csec guy was thinking when he made this puzzle.’ I’m okay with that.

My mentee, who had asked for my help because she felt overwhelmed, inadequate, and unappreciated in her software development job, has decided to leave the company (instead of being relocated to Florida) and instead she’s taken a software development job with a tech company. I’m really proud of her and she’s asked to stay in touch.

I made a trip to the local recycling center to drop off a bunch of expired household chemicals, dead batteries, and nonfunctional devices. Much of my old saved work and achievement awards from high school have been carried off by a recycling truck; the things that I didn’t want to keep and that couldn’t be recycled are gone with the trash. I am at peace with this.

Disney Genie launched. I worked hard and long in the weeks leading up with it, and my effort paid off in the form of no fires to put out. I’m proud of that too.

I sent my collection of Bone graphic novels to my niece Claire, and my Intellivision and pile of games (that I all got at a yard sale more than fifteen years ago) to my friend Jason Schiller.

I have been busy, and it’s a satisfying kind of busy.
